Lord teach us to pray

Manner of Life
Except the LORD build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the LORD keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain. Psalm 127:1

Daily Meditation
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray, as John also taught his disciples. Luke 11:1

Think on These Things
Why do we want to learn to pray? Is it simply because we saw John’s disciples and others praying. If this is the case then we will never learn. Not only will the lesson put forth in Luke II continually elude us, but we will not be able to sit still and know God. Our desire to learn how to pray must be congruent to the will of GOD.
Over the years we have learned that it is acceptable for Christians to do what others do and to want what others have. Some where along the way we have either forgotten or we did not believe that God is Holy. We no longer believe that we are a “are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people;” Thus even while claiming Christ as Lord and master, author and finisher of our faith we have walked in the counsel of the ungodly, stand in the way of sinners and sat in the seat of the scornful. At some point we must agree with the word of which tells us that these things art not to be so.
“Lord teach us to pray” should be our prayer when, and only when, we have it in mind to do his will.

Hymn
Lord, teach us how to pray aright,
With reverence and with fear;
Though dust and ashes in Thy sight,
We may, we must draw near.

We perish if we cease from prayer;
O grant us power to pray;
And when to meet Thee we prepare,
Lord, meet us by the way.

God of all grace, we come to Thee
With broken, contrite hearts;
Give what Thine eye delights to see,
Truth in the inward parts.

Faith in the only sacrifice
That can for sin atone;
To cast our hopes, to fix our eyes,
On Christ, on Christ alone.

Patience to watch, and wait, and weep,
Though mercy long delay;
Courage our fainting souls to keep,
And trust Thee though Thou slay.

Give these, and then Thy will be done,
Thus, strengthened with all might,
We, through Thy Spirit and Thy Son,
Shall pray, and pray aright.

Consolation
Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. James 4:3

Exhortation
Be afflicted, and mourn, and weep: let your laughter be turned to mourning, and your joy to heaviness. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and he shall lift you up. James 4: 9-10

May the Word of God be a lamp unto your feet and light unto your path.
